"Tradition at Every Stitch"

The "Atelier Poveiro" by Better Skin was established by Maria da Luz Ferreira, an experienced entrepreneur with deep roots in the leather garment industry since 1984. Recognizing the rich tradition and craftsmanship behind the Traditional Poveira Sweater, Maria da Luz embarked on a mission to combine this cultural heritage with contemporary and everyday elegance, using wool, leather, and denim.

The workshop is located in the historic center of Póvoa de Varzim and aims to promote the Poveira legacy and showcase this art form. Visitors can observe the production process, making the connection with the products and their history accessible to all.

Maria da Luz has around 15 years at this establishment but brings 50 years of experience in this craft. Since reviving the use of Poveira customs, she has ensured that this essence continues to thrive.

ABOUT US

In 2015, Atelier Poveiro emerged and partnered with the company “Better Skin,” featuring its own production, training in the field, and a physical and online retail store.
Its aim is to carry on and not let one of the most characteristic elements of the fishing heritage of Póvoa de Varzim, passed down from generation to generation, fall into oblivion: the traditional Poveira sweater.
This piece is crafted in the respective workshop by skilled artisans, utilizing high-quality materials efficiently. It includes the well-known classic version of the sweater, as well as a more innovative option that incorporates leather and/or denim. Furthermore, the design can be adapted to different types of clothing, further elevating the culture and transforming it into versatile pieces, resulting in a unique product within a niche market that values both tradition and sophistication equally.
The creation of the pieces is based on the concept of exclusivity, stemming primarily from the design chosen and applied to each item. Each model features nautical and noble motifs, maritime embellishments, and distinctive Poveira insignias that make individuality stand out, just as it was crafted by our ancestors.
